On the Subject of Violets ......

…. and roses.

Putting them in approximate order of rank the loves of my life are my wife, children, grandchildren, Caterham 7 sports car, BHP TrackDays Ltd and my dog, Lady.  All are relatively trouble free but as you will no doubt understand some are way more expensive than others to keep running and in good order.  The car is the cheapest by a country mile.
Lady, however, is a different kettle of fish.  She’s a 3 and a bit year old Labrador, very petite, very willing to do what comes naturally ie retrieve and very affectionate.  Unfortunately she has just shown symptoms of a touch of elbow dysplasia and now intermittently limps.  I’m due to take her for some x-rays next week to see if it’s treatable or if she just has to live with it.  But that’s not the subject of this blog.

Pooh free for the time being.

She has an unwavering delight in rolling in fox pooh and because she knows it's forbidden she is really sneaky about doing it!  Yesterday was the absolute pits as far as that was concerned.  Where she did it I have no idea.  One minute she was all sweetness and the next she was covered from the tip of her nose to her bum in violets and roses.  Aaargh!!!!!!!!
The trouble with fox pooh is the smell.  You just can’t get rid of it even after a couple of shampooings in the garden.  At least the car trailer has uses as a tether while she’s getting the two bucket washing treatment.
So any sure fire methods of getting rid of the smell will be gratefully received.
Thank you.

Winter

BHP TrackDays – Winter

I hate this winter period when the weather is continually damp, the streets never dry out, it’s dark by 4 o’clock and the weather is neither one thing nor the other.  We essentially shut down after our last track day which is always the first Saturday in December at Castle Combe, and we don’t open up again until our first trackday of the new year which is always the last Saturday in February, again at Castle Combe.
I must admit that I try to get a few days off doing absolutely nothing to do with track days immediately after the December Castle Combe event.  But actually the winter break is probably one of our busiest times of the year.  It's important to not drop the ball as they say!  Right now we’re –

·         Finalising track day calendar dates

·         Working out prices for the new season

·         Doing the company accounts

·         Reviewing what went well and what not so well

·         Updating the paperwork

·         Launching a new website*

·         Renewing agreements for stuff like car hire and corporate entertainment

·         Getting ourselves advertised in places like Motorsports Ads and Piston Heads (must get started on that today!)

·         The list goes on …

* takes much longer than you think

So all in all a busy time of the year and I’m very much looking forward to our first event of the new season on Saturday, 23 February at Castle Combe (Book) .  Hope to see a lot of familiar faces there.

Yours,

David
